Good bye Winter, Hello Spring!

As a new season of trail riding emerges for most of the Midwestern states, we would like to remember our vistors of the following items:

  • Spring temporarily trail and road closers are now in affect due to wet conditions in state forest, parks, recreation area and wildlife management areas.

  • Road and trail users should pay particular attention to state forest closures.  A closed forest means that all roads and trails are closed.  Signs will be posted at entry points and parking lots.  The closures include all unmarked roads and trails, unless specifically listed.

  • Anyone born after July 1, 1987 must complete the ATV CD Training Course before operating an ATV.

  • All non-residents must purchase a non-resident ATV pass or non-resident ORV pass to ride on state or grant-in-aid trails.

  • ATV Safety Classes will be starting soon.


As of November 22, 2011, Minnesota has recorded 14 fatalities related to ATV accidents, of which 1 victim had received an All Terrain Vehicle Safety Certificate from a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources approved Safety Course.  We would like to remind visitors to our website that proper education is the key to reducing fatalities, please check our events calendar for dates and times of upcoming ATV Safety classes.
